Yes, in a large family, and with so many children who take a while to be more independent in their learning, I need to delegate. While the older ones are learning the ropes of babysitting, for instance, it is a service because they benefit also. Once they are competent, then I pay them.

Tutoring with homeschooling was paid to them as well because I didn't delegate this until they were older/more competent overall. The littles enjoy learning with their older sibs because they bring more child-like fun into the picture (something I'm not as good at as I got older), and it frees me to concentrate on other areas, and it gives the older ones some spending money. (Tutoring has only been done by those older ones who desire it, of course.)

As for therapy, I receive CAP services from the state for two of mine. It is a Medicaid Waiver program every state has; some make it easy to get, some harder. NC is medium. We were fortunate, actually. There are agencies around the state that service the program. The people you get will be untrained because the money is not good for the job required. Luckily, two times, I've been able to have my adult children work with a sib through an agency under this program. Eric did it with Alex back when he was 18-19 years old, and now Abbey is doing it with both Alex and Adam, hopefully for about a year to a year and a half. So far, amazing things have happened both times. I will be posting on Adam's progress soon. So, yes, Abbey gets paid quite well for her age by the agency, but she is MORE than qualified compared to most I have had to train :-)

Some good blessings lately for our family . . .

That is awesome! Your sensitivity to timing, your collaboration with Alex and his older siblings, and your persistence and wisdom in seeking and fine tuning what he needs -- it's all blossoming and starting to bear fruit! I also enjoyed your discussion of your collaborative learning stages in action.

I am interested in how Abbey and E. fit into this. Do they earn money for tutoring/doing therapy with Alex? That's a wonderful idea. It offers an apprenticeship -- of sorts -- to them while delegating some responsibility.
